Serverproject is a site-specific networked electronic audio performance comprising four people each working with
a laptop computer and various software applications connected over a network to a server computer.
Each performer begins with audio files of various sorts eg. textural, ambient, rhythmic, field recordings,
tones, pulses etc. These are played out through speakers into the gallery space.
While this is taking place performers may record various extracts of the sound captured by a microphone positioned centrally in the
gallery. These recordings are written to the server computer and can then be downloaded to individual
machines to be manipulated and played out again through the speakers.
Each speaker carries a unique mix of
the audio being played into the gallery. Each ‘pair’ will carry the left and right channels from one computer
plus a single channel from two of the other performers’ computers, thus the position of the listener determines
the balance of what s/he hears.
